Island Life — documentary photography series

A photographic diary of island life

Made over several years, the series brings together distinct scenes of island life. Rather than reducing it to a single familiar image, it moves from flames around a wooden boat and a hand mending a net to a man on the road, a bell tower at sunset and stone houses above the sea. Each frame holds its own moment, while the sequence is connected by close attention to daily life and place.

Work kept in frame

A close view of a fishing net being mended reveals the precision of manual work, while a man leading a donkey loaded with branches expands the story to movement, weight and the surrounding landscape. Action, posture and materials carry the scene, so people are more than figures placed inside a decorative view.

Food as part of daily life

Fish, vegetables, olive oil, herbs and a baked dish are shown together with their ingredients and working surface. Food remains connected to its preparation: it is not presented as an isolated product, but as a scene in which sea, land and kitchen meet within the same frame.

Stone, sea and changing light

A silhouetted bell tower at sunset and a group of stone houses above the open sea introduce a wider rhythm to the series. Architecture and landscape are not neutral backgrounds but equal parts of the story: traces of building, the position of the settlement, the horizon and changing light define the space in which the other scenes unfold.
